CARLA MARCOTULLI cantante

Nata e cresciuta in un ambiente musicale suo padre è stato un importante tecnico del suono da Rubistein a alla musica da film di Nino Rota, Armando Trovajoli, Piero Piccioni, Riz Ortolani, Ennio Morricone ecc.
Fin da bambina fa esperienza di studio di registrazione per musica da Film, musica leggera e sigle televisive.
A 16 anni si iscrive al Conservatorio di Musica di Frosinone dove frequenta la classe di flauto per 5 anni e il corso di musica Jazz diretto dal M° Gerardo Iacoucci, cantando come solista sia nel coro Gospel che nella Big Band del Conservatorio.Agli inizi degli anni ’80 si esibisce nei jazz club della capitale accanto ad artisti jazz quali sua sorella Rita, Massimo Urbani, Giovanni Tommaso, Danilo Rea, Larry Nocella, Nicola Stilo …. Nell’83 partecipa al Jazz Festival di Roma a fianco di Chet Baker.
Nell’84 partecipa alla registrazione del disco “Things”di F.DiCastri.
Nello stesso anno la cantante Carmen McRae, durante un concerto al Music Inn di Roma la invita a duettare con
lei.Nell’86 un disco a suo nome per la Fonit Cetra dal titolo “Flying” con Antonio Faraò, Rita Marcotulli, Furio DiCastri, Anders kjellberg,Flavio boltro e Massimo Urbani.Contemporaneamente alla sua attività nell’ambito del jazz, intraprende lo studio del canto classico e più tardi si diplomerà in canto classico al conservatorio di musica “B.Marcello” di Venezia con il massimo dei voti (privatista) e in Jazz.
Nell’88 partecipa ad una delle ultime incisioni di Chet Baker “Chet on Poetry” per la BMG.Nello stesso anno è in tourneè con una cantata di Nicola Piovani diretta dallo stesso autore.Nel 89 si trasferisce a Venezia e inizia a collaborare con i fratelli Tonolo,e canta nella Keptorchestra diretta dagli stessi in diversi festivals e manifestazioni jazzistiche.
Nel 93 incide con G.Tommaso (Over the Ocean) con la sua voce “ classica” premiato come miglior disco dell’anno dalla rivista “Musica&Dischi” e viene invitata a cantare alla 1° edizione di Umbria Jazz Winter. Contemporaneamente è impegnata in opere moderne e si esibisce a New York, Washington (Kennedy Center), e Puerto Rico. Nel 97 è attiva in Germania con il trio del pianista Klaus Trehueit, una sorta di improvvisazione tra contemporanea e Jazz. (Noue Tone).Nello stesso anno inizia una collaborazione con il cantautore regista Paolo Pietrangeli con cui registra alcuni cd.
Nel 2008 registra per la prestigiosa etichetta tedesca Act
un cd a suo nome con Dick Halligan “How Can I Get To Mars” insieme al quartetto d’archi “Dorico” e Sandro Gibellini.
Nel 2018 un nuovo lavoro discografico per il “Parco musicale della Musica di Roma “” Love is the sound of Surprise” con Dick Halligan.
Nel 2017 le viene commissionato il coro per I Concerti Sacri di Duke Ellington dall’Auditorio di Roma e l’anno successivo preparerà lo stesso coro per “ Matthew Hebert Brexit Project” progetto dell’Artista inglese in tour europeo nelle maggiori Capitali europee.
Ha studiato Canto Lirico con i soprani Giuliana Valente, Rosetta Pizzo, Antonietta Stella e il tenore Mario Guggia. Ha partecipato alla Masterclass di Leyla Gencer 1990

Biography

Carla Marcotulli cantante

Born and raised in a musical environment, her father was an important sound engineer
from Rubintein to the film music of Nino Rota, Armando Trovajoli, Piero Piccioni, Riz Ortolani, Ennio Morricone etc.
Since her childhood, she has had experience in the recording studio doing film music, pop music and television theme tunes.
At 16 she enrolled at the Frosinone Conservatory of Music where she attended flute classes for 5 years and a Jazz music course directed by Maestro Gerardo Iacoucci singing as a soloist in both the Gospel choir and the Big Band of the Conservatory. At the beginning of 80s she performed in jazz clubs of the capital (Rome) alongside jazz artists such as her sister Rita, Massimo Urbani,
Giovanni Tommaso, Danilo Rea, Larry Nocella, Nicola Stilo….
In ’83 she took part in the Rome Jazz Festival alongside Chet
Baker.
In 1984 she took part in the recording of Furio Di Castri’s album “Things”.
In that same year singer Carmen McRae during a concert at the Music Inn in Rome, invited her to sing a duet with her. In 1986 she released a record under her name for Fonit Cetra entitled “Flying” with Antonio Faraò, Rita Marcotulli, Furio DiCastri, Anders Kjellberg, Flavio Boltro and Massimo Urbani. At the same time as her activity in the field of jazz, she undertook the study of
classical opera singing and later graduated at the “B. Marcello” music conservatory in Venice with top marks as well as in Jazz.
In ’88 she took part in one of Chet Baker’s last recordings “Chet on Poetry” for BMG. In that same year she toured with a cantata by Nicola Piovani directed by the same author. In ’89 she moved to
Venice and began collaborating with the Tonolo brothers, while singing in the Keptorchestra directed by them in various festivals and jazz events.
In 1993 she recorded with G.Tommaso (Over the Ocean) with her “classical” voice, awarded as the best album of the year by the magazine “Musica & Dischi” and she was invited to sing at the 1st edition of Umbria Jazz Winter. At the same time she has been engaged in modern works which she performed in New York, Washington (Kennedy Center), and Puerto Rico. In 1997 she was active in Germany with the trio of pianist Klaus Trehueit, a sort of improvisation between contemporary and jazz. Lei (Noue Tone). In the same year she began a collaboration with singer-
songwriter director Paolo Pietrangeli with whom she recorded some CDs. In 2008 she recorded for the prestigious German label Act
a CD under her name with Dick Halligan “How Can I Get To Mars” togeth
er with the “Dorico” string quartet and guitarist Sandro Gibellini. In 2018 a new recording work was done for the “Parco musica della Musica di Roma” “Love is the sound of Surprise” with Dick Halligan.
In 2017 she was commissioned to the choir for Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concerts by the Rome Auditorium and the following year prepared that same choir for the “Matthew Hebert Brexit Project”, a
project by the English artist on a European tour in the major European capitals.
